Simplified LMIA process in Quebec

The Simplified LMIA process follows a similar format to the Classic LMIA, but with a few notable differences:

• Language of application: LMIA applications for Quebec must be written in French, except for live-in caregiver jobs. The government is working to help employers overcome this language requirement.

• Job advertising: Unlike in other provinces, Quebec employers do not need to prove that they have attempted to recruit a Canadian citizen or permanent resident before hiring a foreign worker.

• Eligible occupations: This simplified process is reserved for occupations experiencing high demand or labour shortages in the region where the employer is located. 

• Joint submission: Applications must be approved by both federal (ESDC) and provincial (Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Intégration - MIFI) authorities. This requires simultaneous submission to both organizations.
